Tech Design

Here are some of the projects, tests, and exams that I completed in my Grade 11 and 12 Tech Design course using SolidWorks and rendered in Photoview 360 and Blender

RC Car

I designed a rear wheel drive RC Car based on the design of an Audi R8. I modeled everything from the motor controllers and servos to the front and rear wheel suspension. I hope to eventually make the car in my school's shop.

Mould Design

I created a Christmas themed phone case for an iPhone 5 as well as an injection mould for it. Using a product from HASCO, a commercial German mould company, I designed my own mould to manufacture my phone case.

Grade 12 Exam

As part of my grade 12 Technological Design Exam I had to design an innovative end to a industrial robot arm. I created a claw that would be able to grasp oddly shaped objects.

Soma Cube

The Soma Cube is a cube consisting of all possible combinations of three or four unit cubes, joined at their faces, such that at least one inside corner is formed. The arranging of these pieces forms a 3 x 3 x 3 puzzle cube. I both modeled the cube and created an interesting case for the cube.

Logo Cube

One of my favourite projects from grade 11 was the logo cube design. Although very simple to design in SolidWorks, I learned about manufacturing processes as well as designing for manufacturability.

Hydrogen Generator

I first saw this hydrogen generator in a YouTube video and decided to design and make my own. The generator works through the electrolysis of water, creating an oxy-hydrogen gas. This can then be used to power bottle rockets and is the basis of hydrogen powered cars and buses.

Grade 11 Design Tests

These are several of my grade 11 "quick design" tests that were all completed in under 30 minutes. These tests included both working from a drawing and physical objects to reverse engineer parts.

Grade 11 Exam

As part of my grade 11 Tech Design exam I was required to design a green garden shed. I took an atypical approach and created an outdoor functional office and storage space with a scenic cliff view. The benefit of having the shed partially underground is that this will help keep it cooler during the summer months. With hidden storage inside the under-hill tunnel, this shed allows for both style and functionality.

Onager Build

As part of my grade 12 tech design course we were required to design and build an Onager catapult to fire a golf ball. An onager is a form of seige weapon powerd by torsional force of rope or string, or in my case, a bungee cord.
